Sunday, 29th December

Today my family and I visited NCA Lahore to see my sibling’s thesis. The work displayed was truly amazing, beautiful, engaging and each had a story to tell. This painting above is a miniature painting made by a student by the name of Attika. She made multiple works related to houses and what they look like to outsiders…or stalkers.

Monday, 30th December

The next day, we went to visit the thesis of Product Design department at Tollenton Market just beside the college. This market used to be a butcher’s market many years ago, selling fish, poultry and meat. Now it has been displayed as a museum and now bought by NCA.

This work is made by a student who devised a product where one can grow plants and vegetables in their homes in a compact and convenient device. By electricity, its temperature, water quantity, etc. can be regulated. Afterwards my family headed back to Islamabad.

Tuesday, 31st December

Today was my friend’s Mayoun (pre wedding celebration) and Nikkah (where the bride and groom accept each other, sign a legal document and are officialy married).

I had to leave college early as it was in the afternoon. I didn’t have time to change into formal clothes so I went as I was. We reached as soon as everyone was making dua (prayer to Allah) to bless the newly wedded couple. It’s a shame I missed that but I truly wish Allah blesses the couple.

I would’ve loved to show you the bride because she looked absolutely stunning but I need to maintain anonymity of others and myself. Here is a picture of a corner in her house which was arranged in the Mayoun setting, which was quite pretty and elegant.

Wednesday, 1st January

Today was the same friend’s Shehndi, which is a combination of Shaadi (function arranged by the bride’s family) and Mehndi (function where close families and friends are called as the people close to the bride and groom perform lots of dances).

The event started at 7pm and ended at 1am. I got home by 2am!! Although I went to college the next day sleep deprived, this was one of the best weddings I have ever attended.

The interior was very shiny, sparkly yet elegant, such as the chandelier shown above. The food was extremely succulent. The dances were synchronised and cool. Many of my childhood friends were there as well who I’ve known the same way that I’ve known the bride, and both the bride and groom and their families looked gorgeous!

At around 12:30am the next day, the Rukhsati (the wedding ritual where the bride walks across the stage with both the families and says goodbye to her family before leaving with her new family) took place. The bride and her family got very teary. I felt heavy and cold inside and tears were slowly welling up behind my eyes but they didn’t come out. It’s very emotional seeing someone you know since you first started remembering things to grow up and enter a new phase of life. May Allah bless them and all the newly weds this past few and coming months. Ameen

Thursday, 2nd January

My bundle of cuteness gave birth to four pups on Sunday! I thought I’d share the family picture today.

Friday, 3rd January

I had to go to another Mehndi this week. It wasn’t as entertaining but I found ways to entertain myself by making this random face where the pistachio shells are the eyes and the date is the mouth.

Saturday, 4th January

I had to take a picture of this backdrop as it looked so beautiful. I’d love to go there, looking poofy in my fur coat, sipping a mug of hot chocolate and just walk across the snow-clad streets.

This is the end of Project 365 2019 and the start of Project 366. Week 1 has started this week and I wish everyone a very HAPPY NEW YEAR. Stay tuned to more weekly posts
