Project 365 2019 – WEEK 30

Bismillah Hir Rahman Ir Raheem

Peace and blessings be upon you all

Sunday, 21st July

Here’s another picture of my typical delicious breakfast. I add garlic to give the bread some extra juicy flavour.

Monday, 22nd July

I have my practical exam tomorrow so I came to the dissection hall to study what I’d learnt on models, cadavers and bones. While I was studying the muscles of the forearm and the bones of the arm, I saw this amazing intact pelvic girdle (consists of hip bone and sacrum and coccyx bones of the vertebral column) in front of me. I was so much in awe of it that I kept holding it, moving it around and looking at every detail of it. It looked so beautiful SubhanAllah.

Tuesday, 23rd July

My preparation for the practical exam continues where I have to look into the microscope and identify what each slide is showing, including 2-3 identification points to confirm what it is. For example, this is a slide of compact bone and its identification points are the dark oval Haversian canals, the concentric arrangement of lamellae around the canals and the small dark shaped osteocytes also lining concentrically around the canals.

Wednesday, 24th July

My practical exam was today. Alhamdulillah, it went really well. I answered the questions fluently, although I made a couple of silly mistakes and I forgot what types of hand grips there are.

In the exam, or IPE, the dissection hall is arranged into 18 stations with an instructor in almost every station. There are rest stations where there are no instructors but there are instructions printed out in front of you and you have to answer them on a piece of paper. On the other stations, instructors either asked case-related questions, spotting of muscles and neurovascular structures on cadavers and models, theory-based questions, identifying the bones and its position in the body, counselling a supposed patient for osteoarthritis or other diseases related to our course, and examinations of nerves, motor function and joint stability. You have to spend exactly 4 minutes on each station after which the bell rings and you move to the next one.

Thursday, 25th July

My daily boost of immunity.

Friday, 26th July

I’m not vegan but I love vegetables; especially cauliflower, lettuce, mushrooms and olives.

Saturday, 27th July

It’s a beautiful cloudy day and my dog seems to be really enjoying herself…….
