Sunday, 24th May

The moon had been sighted last night (annoyingly at 10pm!) which indicates the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid celebration so Happy Eid Mubarak, everyone! This Eid, I preferred we didn’t go out to not risk getting infectd but my parents were resilient in wanting to go out, see nature and greenery and sit by the stream as long as no one or very few people are there.

However, obviously everyone wants to spend Eid well so when we went to Shahdara, so did hundreds of people. When we went to the stream, so did hundreds of people. My siblings and I didn’t want to risk being infected so we didn’t even touch the water. On the other hand, my parents were chill. Sometimes, a child has to become to parent to remind one’s parents to stay safe. Atleast our dogs got out of the house.

So we returned shortly, ordered takeaway burgers from Roasters, as food makes life special :).

Monday, 25th May

In Eid, families make sweet dishes like sheer khorma, as you can see above which consists of milk, nuts and dates. It is pudding-like with a thick liquid consistency you can pour into a bowl and enjoy before you have any meal.

Tuesday, 26th May

I wake up early morning to play PS4 when everyone’s asleep so that I do not interrupt family TV time. I’m playing Assassin’s Creed II-Revelations again and we had gone to Turkey two years ago so there were a lot of sights there that I was familiar with.

In Assassin’s Creed series, the game takes you back to history in the time of First Civilization, the Crusades, Renaissance, French Revolution, American Revolution, etc. and you get to meet renowned figures such as the Medici family, Machiavelli, George Washington, Blackbeard, Florence Knightingale, Karl Marx, Cleopatra, Caesar, Herodotos, Socrates, Suleiman the Magnificent and much more.

In Revelations, you can explore the 16th Century Istanbul so there are a lot of sights you can literally visit, climb and even buy, such as Galata Tower, Aya Sofya and Topkapi Palace so it was cool to visit these exquisite, story-telling sights once again. Here I am atop Bayezid Mosque.

Wednesday, 27th May

Let this picture of my pup (with her always dirty chin) cheer up all of you! You can’t see it here but she has huge eyes which stare intensely at you like dead fish in a marketplace.

Thursday, 28th May

Since Ramadan is over, I have enough time to read before ‘online’ college starts in two weeks. I mentioned the book Alif before which I could only read one chapter of before Ramadan. Now, I find it hard to put down because it’s so engrossing and how the writer expresses one’s spirituality is beautiful and makes one ponder over their own selves as to what place they stand; and what truly is success.

Today we finally decided to get our shih tzus trimmed as summers here get quite intense and it deals with furry animals much harshly. There’s enough worry about COVID-19 for humans but now we have to worry about Parvo viruse, other infections and heat stroke which is taken alot of dogs’ lives, like my relatives’ dog yesterday. We got them trimmed and vaccinated so today was quite a ‘doggy’ day.
