Project 366 2020 – WEEK 21

Bismillah Hir Rahman Ir Raheem

Peace and blessings be upon you all

Sunday, 17th May

I was walking my dogs today when I noticed the weather was lovely with rushing yet gentle wind and as I looked up, there were signs of rain (It’s been raining quite often here). The clouds looked so beautiful in their formation, as if it was divided into two by a horizontal line of cloud that I had to take a picture of it.

Monday, 18th May

I came across an interesting ayat from Surah Az-Zumar (39:42) talking about sleep. There are a lot of theories as to why a person sleeps or what makes someone sleep. Does tiredness make one sleep, or does something in our central nervous system make us sleep? During my online classes, I learnt that there is an inhibitory centre in the brainstem that inhibits brain activity and cause sleep, which are multiple types of nuclei but I will not go deep into this. But there still isn’t a solid explanation as to the cyclic transition between sleep and wakefulness.

In this ayat, our phase of sleep is explained as God takes away the soul so in a way we die everyday but our soul is returned back to our body and we wake up so it is God’s Grace that He returns our soul back so that we can live another day; and this happens everyday. Hence, whenever I wake up, before I do anything I thank Allah for letting me live another day.

Tuesday, 19th May

Here is the opening credit picture of the show An Kahi that I mentioned earlier. This video is of a beach in Karachi and since it’s just a picture I took, you can’t see the silhouette of the woman walking towards you like a zombie (my parents say she walks like Charlie Chaplin?)

Wednesday, 20th May

My mother used to study in Kinnaird College which in her time was a missionary school so students would sing hymns in the morning assembly. Someone shared a video of a hymn she loved singing and she told us about it. I though the songs of this college would be related to the college or about values, but I supposed those running the college had a sense of humour.

Thursday, 21st May

When a cup of coffee looks so good that it makes me want to dive in and soar into its creaminess, I have to take a picture of it. Also, it’s the drink that helps me stay up till Sehri, the meal you have before the commencement of the fast.

Friday, 22nd May

When you’re blessed to enjoy an iftaar with a delicious roast chicken with a lovely creamy sauce and sauteed vegetables. Apologies for the not-so-well-focused picture; I was too excited and hungry.

Saturday, 23rd May

I love the picture gallery of laptop covers!!!! (Hey, Hedwig!)

I used to sing that hymn either at school or church or both – it’s based on a parable from one of the gospels. Without knowing that though, it must seem odd. The roast chicken looks good.

Those clouds are very pretty. That’s an interesting explanation for sleep and I never really thought much before about what causes us to feel sleepy and the transition between sleep and wakefulness. That coffee does look good and the roast chicken looks absolutely delicious. Eid Mubarak to you and your family. #project366

Your studies on sleep sound very interesting. I’ve never heard that hymn before, it does sound rather funny. We did sing some pretty funny ones at school too!

That coffee looks SOOOOOO good! I am with you on diving in and drinking a good coffee, it always perks me up! Don’t apologise for the image of the chicken, eating it is much more important! Hope you are having a lovely week! Sim – Sim’s Life #Project366 x

I am now craving a cup of coffee, it looks delicious. Those clouds are so pretty, we haven’t had rain for a few weeks now, which is unusual

That coffee does look good! I miss my dose of caffeine in the local café, somehow the coffee I make at home is not as tasty. The clouds look beautiful, so atmospheric. The thought on sleep are very profound and interesting. Love your laptop screen.
