Project 365 2019 – WEEK 52

Bismillah Hir Rahman Ir Raheem

Sunday, 22nd December

I’m just enjoying my regular cereal today.

Monday, 23rd December

Here’s a look at the crispy leaves of winter.

Tuesday, 24th December

Tonight, my family went to my friend/my parents’ friends’ daughters dholki. We’ve known the bride and their family since before I was even born. It was nice to see one of my childhood friends enter into a new phase of her life.

The function was alot of fun. There were funny Bollywood quotes hanging on top of the stage and the theme was Dabang, inspired by a film of a famous Bollywood actor, Salman Khan. The girls dressed up in heavy embroidered shalwar kameez and the boys dressed up in black T-shirt and khakhi jeans, including the groom. The bride, my friend, dressed up in a lovely dark green velvet gown.

Wednesday, 25th December

My little princess is chilling with me on the terrace, gazing at the horizon.

Thursday, 26th December

Here’s a random person’s lawn whose fallen leaves I admire.

Friday, 27th December

After being indecisive of multiple places to eat at Beverly Centre after having given our module exam, my friends and I finally decided to go eat out at Bunberry Club. Their beef burger was quite delicious.

Saturday, 28th December

My family and I went again to Lahore today to attend a cousin’s Nikkah on Sunday and my sibling’s final year thesis at NCA today. Unfortunately today was alumni dinner and outsiders weren’t allowed so we went to Lahore Museum which is situated just beside it.

The museum didn’t disappoint at all! There were so many artifacts, crafts, weaponry, paintings and much more! One of the exhibits that truly amazed me was this Buddhist sculpture signifying an important event related to the Buddha. The sculpture includes more than 60 people and multiple animals all carved out.

Nikkah is basically getting married. In this event, the bride and groom are officially husband and wife. A maulvi or someone qualified asks the bride & groom separately 3 times if they accept each other to which they say, “Qubool hai/I accept”. Then they sign the legal marriage document and become officially husband and wife.
Dholki is a pre wedding celebration where those families and friends close to the bride and groom are invited. There are usually dances or singing marriage songs while beating a drum

Happy new year to you! The Bollywood-themed party sounds great fun. Love the tea quotes in frames on the walls. The Lahore Museum sounds amazing. That Buddha sculpture is beautifully carved.
Hereโ€™s to another year of daily photos! xxx
